Building Colour Consultancy: Projects

The Range Children’s Centre

The brief from Hobsons Bay City Council was to relieve the space from its 1990s blue-grey walls which ‘complemented’ the blue-grey lino floor and grey-green heavy duty curtains.

Consideration was also needed for the hanging fabric pouches and children’s clothes hanging from pegs, fund raising sales items, stray chairs and posters and children’s paintings all around. Finding a colour scheme to present a consistent and stable environment would take a little time!

The staff requested warm neutrals throughout, with contrasting doors.

Haymes Souffle was selected, with tonal variations in Haymes Sweet Jasmine to emphasise the interesting geometry in the entry foyer. Souffle, although a light yellow, became a bright neutral. Dulux Rose Villa was chosen for the contrasting doors, while the doors through the various children’s rooms were painted a deeper yellow – Haymes Applesauce Cake.
