Peter McKnight's Retravision Store, Mentone
The Brief
Retravision franchised stores rely on the goodwill of the owners to follow the corporate colour coding. Peter McKnight wanted to create a new flagship store which has leading edge design, while needing to incorporate some of the existing corporate colours of materials such as laminate shelving and shelving coverings.
He was open to ideas which would create a dynamic, warm, contemporary colour experience for customers which would enable them to identify product categories, orientate to all areas of the store, and to clearly brand Retravision Mentone. Colour was uppermost in his mind to create an atmosphere of warm, relaxed elegance.
Colour Selection Criteria
- Ceiling height
- Ceiling height bulkhead throughout the store
- Curved bulkhead and lower ceiling in TV and Sound Lounge areas
- Telstra Communications and Dealer corporate colours
- Preselected carpet
- Preselected laminate shelving
- Kitchen display area with specific colour kitchens
- Preselected Dulux Dark Strawberry in Sound Lounge
- Peter wanted 'blue' behind the refrigeration and laundry products
- Volume of shop floor area influences visual perception of colour saturation
- Light sources from downlights and television screens in TV and Sound Lounge
