Building Colour Consultancy: Projects

Brooklyn Community Hall

The Brief

Hobsons Bay City Council wanted to upgrade a community hall by creating a wheelchair accessible entrance and repainting the interior. The new entrance serves as a link between two existing rental facilities – the hall and the Brooklyn Tennis Club, potentially creating an imposing and significant community facility in a park area surrounded by homes and adjoining a kindergarten.

Colour Selection Criteria

The besser block 70s building and the granite blocks of the Tennis Club sets the colour tone of the facilities as grey and drab especially with the old white cyclone fencing covered windows!

The new entrance could become an imposing bright focal point for a valuable community asset in a great green space. A concrete ramp, aluminium window frames and balustrades added more grey influence. The entrance render colour needed to be rich and vibrant but not too bright, to create a dignity and classic quality to a drab and boring building.
