THE ART OF CATHERINE VAN WILGENBURG

Catherine van Wilgenburg is a British born visual artist who had an epiphany when she arrived in Australia and saw the southern light.  Colour is not used to describe anything  outside itself. Painting with the colours as subject and object is a paradigm shift away from representation and symbolism, into the experience of  colour  itself as the interaction of light and darkness. Each hue has its own signature, weight, transparency, gesture and to work effectively with colour these must be experienced and resound in the viewer before they can be expressed with their full power. It is a matter of getting inside the colour and letting it out!”
